Yuri was also deeply connected to fellow Asian American activist Grace Lee Boggs – both shared an emphasis on developing one’s own radical and revolutionary ideas and using those to support their communities. They were highly involved in Asian American Studies departments at universities across the nation as well as being featured together at the “Serve the People: Asian American Community Activism” conference in 1998. Both of their legacies live on throughout the world and are especially felt in the communities that they called home; Detroit for Grace Lee Boggs and Harlem for Yuri Kochiyama.
