In addition to his literary contributions, Said coupled his interest in classical music with making connections across differences in identity, highlighting the transformative potential of art in fostering cross-cultural understanding.<\/p>\n

1935:<\/h2>\n

Edward Wadie Said was born on November 1 in\u00a0 Al\u2013Quds, the capital of Palestine (now Jerusalem). Born to Wadie Said and Hilda Moussa, he had four sisters.<\/p>\n

1963:<\/h2>\n

Said accepted a teaching position at Columbia University, which became his academic home. Said went on to hold the position of University Professor, the highest honor Columbia bestows.<\/p>\n

1967:<\/h2>\n

The Six-Day war, also known as the 1967 Arab-Israeli War, shifted Said\u2019s focus away from English and comparative literature. Instead, he started working to dispel the stereotypes and misrepresentation of Arabs in the United States media.<\/p>\n
