Thousands of people gathered in Selma, Alabama, where they collectively walked to Montgomery. This walk was led by Dr. Martin Luther King, and he alongside other nonviolent demonstrators marched to ensure that African Americans could hold the right to vote.<\/p>\n
It was a 5 day, 54 mile march. Throughout the march they were attacked by state troopers with billy clubs and tear gas, historically known as Bloody Sunday.<\/p>\n
